New Melle Football Association, Home of the Jr. Vikings
New Melle Sports & Recreation, Inc. is the sponsor of the New Melle Football Association (“NMFA”) located in New Melle, Missouri. The New Melle Football Association participates in the Gateway Football League, and serves as the “feeder” program for Francis Howell School District.
NMFA is organized for the sole purpose of fostering young athletes and providing a competitive, yet safe environment for athletic development. In 2007, NMFA enrolled teams in the following age groups: 7-8 Year Olds
9 Year Olds
10 Year Olds
11 Year Olds
12-13 Year Olds
The program is designed to develop age-appropriate skills needed to be competitive according to the Gateway Football League Rules and Regulations. Safety is a key priority of the Gateway Football League. As such, there are specific weight limits in which a child can advance the football. All players over a specific weight limit at each age are required to wear stripes on their helmets and cannot carry or advance the football.
NMFA is committed to providing a safe environment for practices and game situations. In 2007, new helmets (Riddell) were purchased for the entire program ensuring state-of-the-art safety features. Additionally, each year all equipment is inspected and maintained. In the event of any identified defects, NMFA replaces the equipment with new purchases.
Our coaches generally consist of parents who have experience and are willing to provide leadership, coaching and teaching skills for the benefit of the kids. The goal of the program is to encourage teamwork, good sportsmanship, and prepare all kids for participation at the high school level. As the kids are strongly encouraged to give their best efforts both in practice and games, the desired result is confidence building and increased self-esteem.
